Stellan Skarsgård: Ingmar Bergman Was a Nazi Who Cried at Hitler’s Death

According to cinemadrame news agency, Stellan Skarsgård, the Swedish actor from “Dune: Part Two,” claimed at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival that Ingmar Bergman was a Nazi who cried upon Hitler’s death.

At the festival, Skarsgård stated he had a “complicated relationship” with Bergman: “Bergman was a good director, but not a good person. He was a deceiver. During the war, he was a Nazi and was the only person I know who cried when Hitler died.”
The director of “Wild Strawberries,” “Persona,” “Cries and Whispers,” and “Fanny and Alexander” is often called one of the greatest in history, so such a claim about him will disturb many of his fans.
Skarsgård continued: “We always excused him, but I felt he had a strange view of others. [In Bergman’s view] some people were unworthy. You could feel it when he was deceiving others. He was not a good person.”
He concluded by raising the discussion of separating art from the artist, saying: “Artists are complex people. You can be a good artist but at the same time be a scumbag. But that doesn’t mean you can’t create good works of art.”
